“‘Fast Track to the Sea’ solves bottleneck in port connections”

“The ‘Fast Track to the Sea’ project is nearing completion. The project is financed by the ‘Connecting Europe Facility’ programme, dedicated to the development of high-performance, sustainable and efficient trans-European networks. We are talking about transport, but also energy and digital. And this project, obviously, in this area of transport, was selected for funding in 2019 under the transport call, and received 3.87 million euros in funding from the EU.” Tea Krizan, Project Officer CINEA – Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agencyintervened at the final event of the ‘Fast Track to the Sea’ project, at the headquarters of the Port System Authority of the Central-Northern Tyrrhenian Sea.

“In the development of the port of Civitavecchia – he adds – it is one of the most significant investments and projects because it resolves an important bottleneck that existed here in the port. Previously we had notable inefficiencies in terms of difficulties with the length of the tracks and the railway infrastructure and road that interfered with each other. This project will now be resolved. It is important in the context of the cargo handling operations of the port itself and we now expect them to be much more efficient and faster.”

“Of course, when we talk about the broader context of the European transport network, it is important to note that the movement of goods from the maritime side, from the sea to the rail network and vice versa, must now be more efficient and faster,” concludes Krizan.
