On the occasion of the week dedicated to bariatric surgery, on the idea of the SICOB Foundation, ASST Nord Milano which organized, with the collaboration of the company ERAS Italia, Move-It Obesity, an initiative to be repeated.

We start in the afternoon, at 3.30 pm, with an information gazebo where you can measure blood sugar, saturation and blood pressure. Roberto Di Stefano

But the highlight of the initiative will certainly be the football match scheduled from 6.30pm to 7.30pm: on the Pro Sesto pitch the “National” team of local institutions, led by the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni, will face off. Roberto Di Stefanoand the ASST Nord Milano team led by the general director of the healthcare company, Dr Thomas Russo.

The two teams will be mixed and composed on one side of representatives of the institutions, municipal councilors and of the Lombardy Region, and law enforcement agencies, and on the other of local health representatives. To the director DAPSS ASST Milan Gianfranco Galli will be responsible for refereeing the match. The entire initiative is free.

“Since 2020, Sesto has been included in the global circuit of Healthy Cities, promoted by the WHO. Initiatives like this one organized by ASST Nord Milano contribute to making Sesto an increasingly active city in promoting health – explains the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni, Roberto Di Stefano – My appeal to the people of Sesto is to participate in large numbers: this important event brings together the best excellences in local healthcare to address the issue of obesity at 360 degrees, starting from the first signs that can emerge already in childhood, up to offering all the information on the most modern clinical and surgical paths. Culture of prevention, therefore, but also promotion of physical activity: two worlds that must proceed side by side. Sport can be the engine of a real cultural revolution due to its educational, social value and promotion of psychophysical well-being. And this also means reducing the impact on the local and national healthcare system. The Municipality of Sesto San Giovanni is here: let’s take the field to fight obesity”.

Giuseppe Faillace

The initiative of 27 June was therefore born from the idea of raising awareness among citizens of the factors that generate obesity but also of its consequences.

Obesity is a problem that must be addressed immediately – declares the head of surgery of the Sesto San Giovanni Hospital, Dr Giuseppe Faillace -. Obesity is often associated with some chronic pathologies that affect various systems of the body. Hypertension, sleep apnea, diabetes, joint problems, enlarged liver, just to name some of the critical issues: bariatric surgery is capable of drastically reducing the impact of these problems. But the most important thing is not to get to the point where you have to intervene. And so let’s “kick” obesity with prevention, healthy eating and sport.”

Salvatore Romano

“A heartfelt thanks to Pro Sesto who made the stadium and all the equipment available to the organizers to allow this important initiative to take place”, concludes the vice president of the City Council and municipal councilor of Sesto San Giovanni, Salvatore Romano.
