“Crucial role of chemistry and innovation for Italy”

“The role of innovation in the chemical industry is absolutely crucial to guarantee the competitiveness of our industrial system. To date, companies are put to the test by the inevitable repercussions, restrictions and uncertainties linked to the ecological, energy, digital transition as well as by the current geopolitical scenario. We must therefore not forget that chemistry is pervasive, has a transversal nature and has a direct impact on all other supply chains, constituting in all respects “the technological enabler of our increasingly competitive and green chemistry, capable of generating innovative solutions therefore allows us to maintain a solid industrial base in traditional sectors and contribute to the development of frontier and cutting-edge sectors. If we want to pursue objectives related to environmental sustainability while safeguarding companies, being competitive and increasingly self-sufficient less dependent on third countries, we must be aware that chemical innovation is the engine of national competitiveness, of the economic, social and environmental progress of our country”. Thus to Adnkronos Ilaria Di Lorenzo, vice president of Federchimica with responsibility for Research and Innovation on the occasion of the 2024 public assembly of Assobiotec – Federchimica entitled “Competitiveness: the crux of research, the role of business” which was held today in Rome.

“To develop biotech in Italy – adds Di Lorenzo – it is essential to increasingly encourage and facilitate public-private collaboration in order to strengthen an ecosystem in which to create a strong synergy between the academic world, research bodies, industry and institutions. That research is a long journey that requires the necessary strategic involvement of all interested parties”.
