PESARO – Drug dealing at Miralfiore and controversy. Mayor Andrea Biancani responds to attacks from the League and opposition leader Marco Lanzi.

«Illegality must be fought, without ifs or buts. And it’s clear that those who deal should be put in prison, this is not up for debate. But the real problem, which the Government is unable to combat, is the stay of these people in prison, which often happens they find themselves free after a few days, often rendering all the daily efforts of the police forces in vain. We are talking about the same right, which Baldelli, Baiocchi, Andreolli represent and which in the press speak of a “devastating message of impunity”, which should be the first to guarantee security in the territories, also, for example, by implementing jobs of the police, but above all by guaranteeing a certain and respected punishment. This is where the Government must intervene. To fight illegality we need the right rules and tools that we often don’t have and above all more personnel.”

Biancani specifies: «Generalize and talk about “pusher to be integrated” does not fully summarize my thoughts, but those who today are indignant at my words, appropriately exploited, have great courage, being part of political forces that have always shouted, with populist slogans, to fight illegality but which have never actually done anything. If the Miralfiore Park and the station area are described as areas in the hands of illegality, the criticism is not of the mayor but of the police forces who are responsible for combating illegality and crime, who instead are also making concrete efforts if – as I have already said – unfortunately they are not put in a position to be able to do their job as best as possible. For my part, I will never pass the blame onto others and I believe that constant discussion is needed with all the subjects involved, aware of the real complexity of the problem which does not only concern Pesaro, but all the areas around the stations of Italy. The Municipality has always guaranteed its willingness to collaborate, so much so that, to date, it participates in an operation, managed by the Police Headquarters, alongside the Police, Carabinieri and Finance to combat drug trafficking and dealing. It is no coincidence that one of the first things done after my inauguration was to ask the Prefecture, which is the authority responsible for public order, toat the convocation of the Order and Security Committee which will meet next Friday. The Administration will continue with the actions within its competence, primarily by carrying forward the redevelopment of places of decay, transforming them into increasingly accessible, served and participated spaces, because a more lively city is also safer. Examples are via dell’Acquedotto, which over the years has been transformed from the city’s back shop into an intergenerational leisure space, the recently renovated Cappuccini underpass, the interventions on the new railway station, the forthcoming redevelopment of the two car parks behind the station and the new facilities of video surveillance throughout the station area, car parks and underpass. But I reiterate that the Municipality alone can do little, as can the police forces themselves, if clear and certain rules do not come from the State, repeatedly announced with populist slogans but never implemented with truly effective measures”.

Finally, the jab at the opposition: «In recent years, with the right in government, the numbers of irregular arrivals in Italy have grown very significantly, a situation denounced at a national level by mayors and municipalities, but ignored by the government which continues to escape from their responsibilities for the first reception. Today, those who arrive in the cities risk becoming a ghost and ending up in the hands of the underworld in order to survive: this, for us, is a real emergency to be fought in Pesaro and throughout the country.”
