Trapani, honorary citizenship for NGO crews • Front Page

Actuality

The crews of the NGOs involved in the “sea taxi” investigation will be honorary citizens of Trapani.

The municipal council, on the recommendation of the mayor Giacomo Tranchida, has in fact decided to confer honorary citizenship on the members of the crews of “Jugend Rettet”, “Save The Children” and “Doctors Without Borders” following the “no proceeding” ordered by the Court of Trapani where the three NGOs had ended up under investigation. For Tranchida, the awarding of honorary citizenship represents an “important gesture towards cultural and civic awareness, against racism, xenophobia, indifference and against discrimination based on religion and any diversity”.

Thus, honorary citizenship recognizes “the commitment of the members of the crew of the NGOs Jugend Rettet, Save The Children and Doctors Without Borders and what their life testimony represents in the construction of a present and a future of peace in a Trapani, Gateway to the Mediterranean”.

Now, the next step will be the green light from the city council.
