Presentation of the book “Palermo images of Gardens … in search of lost memory” by Benedetto Terruso, Thursday 27 June, at 5 pm, in the Spazio Cultura bookshop, in via Marchese di Villabianca.

The book, published by Palermo University Press, collects the work of the architect and landscape designer, who passed away last October in Palermo, and recounts the green projects for the city such as “Il Giardino degli Aquiloni” – Foro Italico, “Il Parco d’Orleans ” today Parco Cassarà and “Il Giardino di Case Rocca”, today the Florio garden.

It is an essay on three contemporary public gardens created in Palermo, which, condensed and fixed in this collection, intend to represent the memory of three occasions which gave the possibility of composing and recomposing both historical research and experimentation and professional commitment.

Green spaces for the public, which tend to achieve naturalistic architectural configurations, in a renewed connotation without giving in to conservative and traditionalist ideas of the Art of Gardens.

If Kepos has different meanings and indicates a garden, an enclosed place, the maternal womb, it contains the idea of flowering and birth, as well as protection. With the word lost memory the author refers to the study and design of landscape architecture, through an overlap of aesthetic, functional and symbolic values, aimed at attempting to prefigure and restore, through new design experiences, the relationships between architecture, art and nature. The physical place communicates on the one hand a geological and anthropological history, on the other a memory linked to the work of man.

The ability to compose historical research, experimentation and professional commitment were fundamental for the architect Terruso and guided his entire work in the city of Palermo. Entrance is free and open to all.
