VIAREGGIO

A Festival, that of Robotics, created to share and disseminate direct evolutions in tune with the future. A Festival which, oriented towards marine robotics, lands today, for the first time, under the scientific direction of Professor Mauro Ferrari, in Viareggio.

Professor Ferrari, what does it mean to bring the Festival to Viareggio?

“Being able to address topics such as marine robotics in the nautical center. The goal is to talk about an activity in the place where this activity takes place.”

How can robotics and artificial intelligence be used in navigation?

“In the design and construction phases of a boat. And also as its equipment, because many have robot systems inside them to control navigation. Automation and artificial intelligence are applied to these systems to make them more able to interact, for example, with the reading of the weather and the consequent adjustment of the structure”.

With the arrival in Viareggio, what synergies were born?

“The first was with Navigo by Pietro Angelini and with the Municipality which, with the mayor Del Ghingaro, immediately showed a strong interest in the initiative. Then the possibility of integrating us with the Viareggio-Bastia-Viareggio regatta, a historic and also driving the public turnout. Without forgetting the importance of Azimut Benetti which shared the project with us and brought in its research and development manager, Iacopo Senarega”.

How will the meetings take place?

“The program includes reports and interventions for the majority of teachers from the University of Pisa and the Sant’Anna School. A peculiarity of this event will be the connections, during the workshops, with the construction sites, to integrate and give greater exhaustiveness to the ‘topic covered”.

An important role is also that of young people…

“The aim of the Festival is to be able to speak to all people, to give them greater awareness of the role of the issues of the present and the future. And we are especially addressing young people. Furthermore, the Isyl Higher Institute was involved in this event which trains nautical professionals. These students will not only have a passive role (listen to the speeches of teachers and speakers), but on the contrary they will be protagonists themselves by presenting projects to “authorities” in the world of research and nautical”.

The future goal?

“Propose editions involving more and more people and thematic areas. To allow young people to participate in the future, show what good can be done and what each of us can expect from robotics and AI. Without fear, but with awareness” .
