The Mayors of Calabria: “The Region must challenge the law on Autonomy”
“UnasolaItalia” is the title of the appeal that the first citizens addressed to the president of the regional council Roberto Occhiuto and to the president of the regional council Filippo Mancuso.
The registrations, already almost seventy in just a few hours, are arriving at the dedicated email [email protected]. Anyone who wants, it is written in a note, will be able to join until next Thursday, June 27th. Then the document will be officially transmitted to Occhiuto and Mancuso.
“The Mayors of Calabria – it is written in the appeal – commit the president of the Regional Council and the president of the Regional Council to challenge before the Constitutional Court the government initiative bill, definitively approved by the Chamber on 19 June 2024, connected to the public finance maneuver on the implementation of the differentiated autonomy of the Regions with ordinary statute, but also all possible implementing measures. The law contains evident elements of unconstitutionality and fundamentally undermines the unity of the country, taking away huge resources and functions from the southern regions, such as to compromise the constitutional values of equality and the rights to health, work and education of all citizens. “.
“The provisions of the law – concludes the appeal – If implemented, they would create unacceptable discrimination between the citizens of the Northern and Southern regions, especially in vital sectors such as public health and education, creating a country divided in half and very far from the structure desired by the Founding Fathers”.
