On the basis of the wild boar depopulation plan envisaged in order to combat the spread of African swine fever, “from 1 March to around mid-June, the activities in the province of Piacenza led to the taking of 183 animals, while in the province of Parma, a total of 350 animals were taken. The trend has seen an increase in numbers compared to previous years, particularly in control activities, which can be estimated at around 20%. A meeting with the Provinces and provincial police is scheduled in the next few days to monitor the situation and adopt everything possible to make the action even more effective”.

This was stated by the councilor for the mountains of the Emilia-Romagna region, Igor Taruffi, responding to a question presented by the councilor Emiliano Occhi of the League.

In his application, Occhi asked to “indicate the number of wild boars killed in the provinces of Parma and Piacenza, considering the increase in cases of African swine fever since March 1st and the expansion of the restriction zones”, explains a note.

“On March 1, the plan for the depopulation of wild boars envisaged in order to combat the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in the territory of the province of Parma was adopted in Parma – recalls the Northern League member. A plan whose starting aim was that of achieving 200% depopulation compared to previous years. Considering that approximately 16 weeks have passed since 1 March 2024, the number of wild boars killed in the province of Parma according to the depopulation plan should be approximately 5,152”.
