Taranto, the new project for Iacovone presented: the details

The project for the new Erasmo Iacovone stadium has been officially presented, which will be renovated in view of the Mediterranean Games in Taranto in 2026. Engineer Fabio Manzone has designed a facility capable of hosting 21,000 spectators, with a load-bearing structure and a roof in steel, compliant with the most modern architectural standards. The overall cost of the project is 60 million euros and completion is expected in 18 months.

The project was illustrated today, Tuesday 25 June, during a services conference in the presence of Commissioner Massimo Ferrarese and technicians from 21 entities. Ferrarese himself opened the works, giving the floor to the designers to explain the details of the work.

The tender will be launched by August, with the award expected for September. The work will begin at the end of the bureaucratic procedures, presumably by the end of November. We are trying to bring forward the demolition of the lower ring to September, with the start of the first works. At night, the roof will be illuminated with the colors of Taranto Fc.

As mentioned, the supporting structure of the new stadium will be made entirely of steel, as will the roof, which will recall the wave motion of the sea. Inspired by the English model, the design includes a grandstand that is only 7 meters from the playing field.

The stadium will include a press room, a hospitality room and a room for remote control of all functions. The teams will enter the field from the central stand. Each level will be equipped with toilets and the inclinations of the stands will be modified to ensure optimal visibility.
