Andrea Lanari’s solidarity challenge

In 2012 he lost both arms after a serious accident at work, which were crushed under a press. Since then for Andrea Lanari, of Castelfidardo, everything, or a lot, will have changed. He will have had to face new challenges and rebuild his daily life. He certainly became one of the first testimonials of Anmil, the national association of disabled and disabled workers, with whom he brought his experience and testimony around, even among young people.

A great undertaking awaits him in a few days, when the 2nd of July will cross it Strait of Messina swimming, with prosthetics, up to Reggio Calabria (more precisely from Torrefaro to Cannitello).

With him there will be his son Kevin and the instructor Marco Trillini, swimming expert for people with disabilities and communications manager of the Pope John XXIII Center of Ancona. They will swim for about 3 and a half kilometers per raise funds to help work victims with Anmil and for the Pope John XXIII Center.

“On 2 July, thanks to Asd Siciliaopenwater, together with my son Kevin and two other friends of mine we will attempt to swim the Strait of Messina – declares Lanari in the Anmil press release – and it will be an important objective not only as a personal challenge, but also as an opportunity to promote the culture of safety in the workplace which the daily news shows as a useless frill for everyone”.

“With this he intends to send a message of never giving up and even when life presents us with difficult situations – continues Anmil – it is precisely in those moments that we must bring out all the willpower and determination necessary to try to overcome the obstacles . Today his story is an example for the hundreds of workers and students he has met for years, to whom he tells his story so that they never find themselves facing a drama like his.

Sharing the experience with him are his two children: Kevin in the water, while Keira will support him from a boat, following them along the entire route. “I also wanted to write and report this undertaking to the Pope and the President of the Republic – declares Lanari – so that they find on this occasion an opportunity to make their warning heard not only on the occasion of unacceptable tragedies and which we are increasingly accustomed to”.
