Captain’s House, exhibition dedicated to the Templars

An exhibition dedicated to the Templars inside the Captain’s House focusing on Art Bonus funding. The municipal administration has launched this further project within one of the major sites of the capital, an important medieval testimony. Inside the building which is located in the port area, in front of the archaeological excavations of the Porto Traianeo, recovery works are underway which are part of the large contract which also includes the renovation of the Medieval Shrine next to the Palazzo degli Anziani and of Dante square. The ‘Culture’ service of the Municipality, directed by the architect Viviana Caravaggi Vivian, wants to exploit all the containers by returning them to the city and the public, including the Captain’s House.

The idea is to set up a permanent exhibition entitled “Processus contra Templarius”, composed of parchments of absolute value. Here is the explanation of the project in a document from the Municipality: “The exhibition itinerary intends to contribute to the protection of masterpieces and testimonies of the past kept by the Holy See; surviving documents of the Trial of the Templars, celebrated by Clement V in 1308. Four parchments that pass down the documents of the famous Trial of the Knights of the Temple with the depositions given by the 72 Templars at the Poitiers investigation and the acquittal of Chinon. In addition to the parchments, the exhibition displays the reproduction of a file of 24 sheets of Benedict XII reproduction of 3 red wax seals of the cardinal inquisitors Pietro Colonna, Pierre de La Chapel and Berenger Frèdol”.
