Federico Sironi flies into gold and mortgages Europe

Monza – Last September he made a choice without hesitation. He focused on pole vaulting and set aside his basketball ambitions. A winning decision because Federico Sironi, after the silver medal at the national indoor student championships, he won the regional category title with the measurement of 4 meters and 60. The competition took place in Chiuro in the province of Sondrio. There Atletica Monza team she showed up for the appointment in Valtellina after having completed a period of preparation on high ground in Livigno. Another important detail: with this performance the 17-year-old achieved a personal record and, at the same time, “printed” the minimum to participate in the European pupil championships, scheduled in Banska Bystrica in Slovakia from 18 to 21 July. The student of the Frisi scientific high school is, at the moment, qualified for the continental review.

Places available, in fact, they are two. Only the Piedmontese Leonardo Scalon has done better than Federico among the same age groups, having “climbed” up to 4.70. The other candidates, to change the current hierarchies, will have only one other opportunity available, the Italian championships scheduled at the Cozzoli stadium in Molfetta from 5 to 7 July. The athlete from Monza, already in excellent shape, will obviously take part in the races in Puglia with the intention of confirming his state of grace and collecting his ticket for the European Championships. The numbers speak in his favour: in recent months he has increased his record from 4 meters to 4.60.

“Since when he left basketball to dedicate himself only to athletics – confirms father Matteo – Federico did it strides“. At home, moreover, he has never lacked sporting opportunities. In the family they have always beenmuntagnat“. In the sense that here they have always had an inexorable passion for the mountains and for cross-country skiing in particular. Grandfather Luigi And dad Matteo they are two loyalists of the Pell and Oss, historic mountaineering society from Monza. But Nordic skiing never really made its way into Federico’s heart. The attraction to basketball is decidedly more powerful. The athlete from Monza, in fact, played as a winger for Aurora Desio in the Under 15 Excellence championship.

“In the end – explained Federico – I left basketball, but I was very undecided”. The choice, given the results, would seem to be the right one. The march towards the personal best had already begun in Reggiolo (Reggio Emilia) where Federico had made a good progression starting from 4 meters, reaching the ceiling of 4.60. A quota that he exceeded in the Lombard championships in Chiuro. Giovanni Carnelos, who had beaten him at the Italian indoor championships, had to settle for second place here. But all of Atletica Monza is having a good time. Also in Chiuro, Filippo Bianchini won the high jump with 1.92. The cadet team placed third at the regional club championships. At the Italian multiple event championships held in Lana (Bolzano), the junior Lisa Maria Caramello and the student Emanuele Fiorucci placed, respectively, in seventh and eighteenth position in the heptathlon and decathlon.
