The event organized by the Automobile Club Sassari, designed to amaze, is a candidate to host the national final of the Aci Sport Rally Cup in 2025.
This morning, the welcoming Martini Racing Center in Sassari hosted the presentation of the XXIX International Rally Golfo dell’Asinara, an event organized by the Automobile Club Sassari which will take place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June. The asphalt rally, which includes 73.50 timed kilometers divided into 5 special stages to be repeated twice, will be valid as the second round of the Aci Sport Zone 10 Rally Cup and the Regional Championship. Registrations, which will close at midnight today, between modern and historical rallies have already exceeded 70 crews, including the best Sardinian “asphalt drivers” and the highly rated Molise native Giuseppe Testa, winner of the 2023 Rally Cup.
The event born in 1979, and revived with conviction by the Automobile Club Sassari in 2022, this year will include a shakedown, service park and headquarters in Sassari, departure from Porto Torres, arrival in Castelsardo and closing of the first day, on Saturday evening in Piazzale della Pace in Alghero, in conjunction with Birralguer, the craft beer festival.
The president Of AC Sassari And ACI Sport Spa, Giulio Pes from San Vittorio, declared: “The race, well rooted in the territory, has reached its third re-edition entirely on asphalt. The project started three years ago with the mayors of the Metropolitan Network of Northern Sardinia envisaged a rotation of the cities alternating the main moments of the rally – departure, arrival of the stage, assistance and final arrival – and this rotation allows the various cities involved to enjoy, in the year, of a different moment. And I believe this is one of the secrets of the event’s success. The support of the Sardinia Region, all the municipalities and the sponsors guarantees a great show and success in terms of the public. The race is growing, year after year we welcome a greater number of participants, we want to continue to give emotions to athletes and motorsport lovers and we have presented our candidacy to host, in 2025, the national final of the Italian Cup, a rally in which the over 200 finalist crews who qualify in the ten different zones of the Rally Cup participate”.
Also present Pierluigi Salis, consultant of the Regional Sports Department. “I bring greetings from Councilor Ilaria Portas. The Region is ready to support important events like this, which in addition to the sporting value manage to actively involve as many as ten municipalities”.
The mayor of Alghero, Raimondo Cacciottodeclared: “We continue the fruitful collaboration with Ac Sassari already started by my predecessors, we are pleased to host the finale of the first day, in conjunction with Birralguer, and we are ready to work on other projects”.
The mayor of Porto Torres, Massimo Mulasdeclared: “It is important and it is a great pleasure to be there and we will ask the Sardinia Region to continue to support events like this, which through sport promote collaboration in the area and with neighboring municipalities for the common good”.
L’Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Sorso, Fabio Idili, declared: “I bring greetings from our administration, for the third consecutive year we will host a reorganization, this time on our beautiful coastline and we hope to soon be able to host a special test as well. Thanks to the organizers and happy rally to everyone.”
L’Councilor of the Municipality of Usini, Francesco Fiori, added: “I bring greetings from the municipal administration. We are pleased to be part of the group of municipalities hosting the rally and we thank the organizers for this possibility, as it gives us the opportunity to make our territory known, which deserves this opportunity”.
The mayor of the Municipality of Osilo and the president of the Union of Municipalities of Anglona and the Lower Coghinas Valley, Giovanni Ligios, declared: “Thank you for the invitation and for your involvement in this now structural event in the area. In recent years, administrators have finally changed their mentality and opted for total collaboration. Good for everyone and thanks to Aci for these opportunities. The Region’s support is important for events which, like this one, have significant resonance and effectively promote the territory. We are pleased to guarantee, thanks to our roads, important tests, we guarantee maximum availability”.
The 2024 edition
Illustrating the technical details of the 29th International Rally Golfo dell’Asinara was engineer Edoardo Di Lauro of Tiziano Siviero Adventure, who designs the routes. “The 2024 edition has been studied and taken care of in detail, choices have been made that allow us to satisfy all the needs of a national Rally Cup final. I am referring to a route that could support a number of participants well in excess of the seventy or so cars that we will host this year, to a city service park – which allows spectators to be brought closer to the world of rallies – and to a shakedown located within close distance of the park precisely to facilitate the needs of crews and mechanics”.

At the end of the press conference, there was also the presentation of Carlo Tomassetti’s book “This too is rallying. Tales from the right seat”, followed by the aperitif offered to those present by the organizers and the partner Cantine Santa Maria La Palma.
