A series of checks is underway, carried out with a joint service between the local police and the PS police station against the phenomenon of loud noises, i.e. young people on mopeds that do not comply with the law, therefore, very noisy and with attitudes on the part of the driver that create danger to public safety.

The checks covered the Pizzo district, the Ortisiana ring road and Corso San Giorgio.

In recent days, various reports have been received from citizens who have raised the problem of “noisy scooters”. Sometimes the passages are not sporadic but continuous, making the noise frequent, annoying and, in the end, intolerable. A series of fines were issued against scooter riders who disturbed residents due to noise. In particular, ten fines were imposed on as many “harassing” scooter riders, mostly minors, who were roaming the city streets. The fine foreseen for excessive noise of mopeds ranges from a minimum of 41 and a maximum of 168 euros. Mopeds often circulate with the muffler deliberately tampered with to increase the performance of the two-wheeler. The local police also subjected to administrative detention six mopeds that were traveling at high speed along Corso Garibaldi on just one wheel.

The checks, as agreed between the police commissioner, Vincenzo Trombadore, and the mayor, Maria Monisteri, will continue in the next few days.
