Corso Federico to be refurbished, work begins at Porta Bari

The preparatory phase of the construction site for the redevelopment works of Corso Federico II di Svevia and adjacent or neighboring squares (Duomo, Repubblica, Town Hall) is scheduled for this week. This is a contract that falls within the Pnrr, for a works cost of approximately three million euros.

As is known, the stone of the course is fractured and disconnected in many places. There have been many restoration interventions but they only serve to provide temporary accommodation. This requires a structural solution.

The planned intervention involves the total renewal of the paving built in the 1990s, which was largely damaged, and the renewal of the underground services, of the plant elements and networks, as well as the insertion of street furniture such as benches, both in the central artery of the historic center and in the adjacent annexed squares (Duomo, Repubblica, Town Hall). A different stone will be used, more compact and less slippery.

Corso Federico II di Svevia is the most important commercial street in the city and is also the walking place par excellence and the business card for tourists arriving in Altamura. Commercial operators and citizens obviously have concerns because the works will certainly create inconveniences. The good performance of the different processing phases will be fundamental. In March, at a town meeting, designers, technicians and companies spoke with citizens and interested parties about how the contract would be implemented. We will work in pieces, so as not to take up the entire course at the same time. The first “piece” is the one that starts from Piazza Unità d’Italia.
