Ferrara The meager 2.89% collected in the city at the polls “certainly cannot be considered satisfactory, even if we have retained a municipal councilor” as per the comment of the provincial coordinator Paride Guidetti. But the vote only triggered a bitter debate within the 5 Star Movement, which contains pre-election conflicts in some municipalities of the province (Argenta above all) but which actually risks polarizing on the figure of Tommaso Mantovani. The former city councilor, historical face of the movement, already with the decision not to run again had distanced himself from the regional and local leadership, in particular with the coordinator Paride Guidetti, on the method and merit of the alliance with the Democratic Party; but with the self-suspension announced a few days before the vote, and peppered with incendiary statements reiterated after the polls, he exposed himself to accusations of “betrayal”. Now that he had announced his reinstatement, with the aim of thwarting the agreement with the Democratic Party for the Regionals, Mantovani remained «excluded from the territorial group’s mailing list: from “self-suspended” to “suspended”. I believe it would be at least a duty to discuss what happened, including the resignation of the provincial coordinator.” And there is talk of referral to the national board of guarantors.
«I don’t know anything about disciplinary proceedings against Mantovani – says Guidetti – However, I believe that his position needs to be examined, not so much for the criticisms of me or the regional coordinators, but for having damaged the 65 Ferrara candidates of the movement, among the European and administrative. I am not happy with the result in Ferrara, the fact of having kept the city councilor (it is Marzia Marchi, ed.) is certainly not enough because there was a setback: the presence of a mayoral candidate like Anna Zonari had an influence, and Alan Fabbri he probably also collected votes from our voters, but Mantovani’s behavior had an impact.” Meanwhile between the former councilor and some candidates, such as Roberto Baldisserottothere were heavy exchanges of social comments.
The opportunity to understand something is already on July 3rd, at the meeting of the territorial group to which Mantovani is not invited, while on July 12th a provincial assembly will take place, with the territorial groups and all the members, in the presence of the coordinators and of the regional councilor. The agenda is already projected to the Regionals, but the Mantovani case will be very present: we will have to see if the former councilor’s position will be clarified on that occasion. Immediately after the vote, he had anticipated that he would not leave voluntarily, “in case they have to kick me out”.
