Pescara struggling with blackouts nightmare day for the center – Pescara

PESCARA. Four interventions to free people stuck inside the elevators in as many different points of the city, one to put out the fire in an electrical substation in via Aterno. Busy Saturday for the Pescara firefighters who received numerous calls yesterday morning due to the blackout in the city which lasted at least an hour and a half.
In particular, once again, the center of Pescara was left without electricity. Several calls were received by the firefighters, who intervened in several places to resolve some problems, in particular to free people stuck inside the elevators of their buildings; interventions in via Teramo, via Malagrida and Fontanelle, one in Montesilvano. At around 11am, the soldiers also had to put out the flames that were breaking out from a cabin in via Aterno.
Everything was resolved in the early hours of the morning without any particular problems and above all without danger for the people involved in the firefighters’ interventions. And also thanks to the timely intervention of the E-distribuzione workers, who allowed the beating heart of the city to resume all activities, including commercial and restaurant activities, which already feared customers would flee due to the blackout.
A well-founded fear, given that only a few evenings ago, in particular last Thursday, during the European Championship match between Italy and Spain, the center of Pescara was always left in the dark, including the seafront. The loss of electricity did not allow customers who had booked tables to dine while watching the Azzurri match to enjoy the evening. Some even preferred to leave rather than wait for the return to normality and postpone dinner with friends in front of the TV.
Voltage drops in this period are once again becoming a problem in cities, including Pescara: the extreme heat pushes people to turn on the air conditioners for many hours a day. Then there are the shops and restaurants, which ensure a cooler temperature than outside for their customers with air conditioning. Higher consumption overloads the control units and causes voltage surges or blackouts. Those who stay at home also pay the price, because power surges can damage household appliances that are always connected to sockets, such as PCs, televisions, refrigerators or other electronic devices.
The problem in the center of Pescara is also caused by the large presence of commercial activities, in particular in the restaurant sector, which need a lot of electricity to always be operational to welcome customers.
