The incessant rainfall during the night caused the river to overflow Ghelpach to Asiago. Dozens of shops flooded. Over 60 calls to the 115 operations room, mainly due to flooding of streets, shops, basements, garages and rooms below the road surface. Teams from Vicenza and volunteer staff from the Thiene and Recoaro detachments were then added to the Asiago firefighters at night. Civil protection teams and municipal technicians are also at work.
The heavy rains transformed the last stretch of Corso IV Novembre, in the center of Asiago, into a river: the Ghelpach flooded in several places around 4am.
A strong storm hit the plateau valley between Camporovere, Asiago and Gallio at an altitude of approximately 1000 metres. In a few hours, around 100 mm of rain was recorded. The situation is now improving, with the waterways flowing back into the riverbeds and there is no news of anyone injured.
In the area of Schio, the firefighters intervened due to a landslide in Contrà Masetto and to clear the road that leads from San Rocco di Tretto to the town of Schleden, where during the night a tree that fell on the ring road blocked traffic. Other interventions involved flooding of the basement and rooms below the ground floor.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to hit the same areas in the next few hours. Strong wind at altitude was also reported with the fall of some trees and a general drop in temperature.
Shortly after dawn today, the Feltre firefighters and the Veneto Strada technicians had to intervene in the municipality of Overmount (Belluno) due to debris that has invaded the roadway of the SP50 that connects Fonzaso with Predazzo in Trentino Alto Adige. Similar intervention was also carried out on the Trentino side of the road. Shortly before 6am the firefighters of the Lower Feltre area intervened on another landslide in Lamon, along the SP40. Also in this case, a Veneto roads vehicle intervened to clear the carriageways.
