Savona, tourist feels ill during cruise: transported to hospital by Coast Guard

Rescue operation last night by the Coast Guard of Savona for an Italian tourist, who fell ill while on board the ‘Costa Toscana’ cruise ship, which had just left for Marseille. At the time of the report the ship was approximately 5 nautical miles from the Savona coast.

After a fall that occurred in the morning, the woman suffered symptoms of head trauma: after checks by the on-board doctor, through the International Radio Medical Centre, she was requested to be transferred from the ship for hospitalization in the nearest hospital, in case especially that of Savona.

The rescue request was received by the Savona Coast Guard Operations Room which ordered the CP 863 patrol boat to be sent to the scene, on which, in the meantime, the White Cross personnel, previously alerted by the Maritime Authority itself, were also embarked.

Once the transshipment was completed, the patrol boat arrived at the dock at 7.40 pm. The patient, accompanied by a family member, was immediately visited by the 118 medical staff, who arrived on site to carry out a preliminary diagnosis.

Once the conditions were stabilized and the checks were completed, the lady, who always remained conscious during the operations, was transported to the local emergency room for the necessary treatment.
