Square without cars, the Municipality tries again

A square without cars? The Municipality of Monza tries again in Triante, despite the criticisms that have been raised.

Square without cars, the project

The idea of changing the face of Piazza Giovanni XIII had already emerged weeks ago, but a protest by residents had scuttled Legambiente’s project (the traders had also joined the signature collection in defense of the 24 parking stalls that would have been lost) . However, the Municipality of Monza does not give up.
The Pilotto Council reiterated that it is interested in proceeding with a redevelopment of the Triante road junction with a project that includes, in addition to the road axes mentioned above, also the redevelopment of some different parking areas and green areas. For this reason, the Administration has allocated 36 thousand euros to entrust the activities of “parking survey, traffic analysis and drafting of a project concept proposal” to the Environment and Territory Mobility Agency of the Municipality of Milan.

The idea of the Council

The Administration’s idea, as stated in the municipal resolution, is to «remodulate and optimize vehicular traffic; returning public space to people both in terms of pedestrianism and cycling which at the moment is mostly intended for cars, mending the urban fabric and strengthening the functional mix; contribute to the reduction of air and noise pollution; promote socialization; involve the inhabitants of the neighborhood in a change that encourages walking and cycling for a more sustainable lifestyle”.

Now it remains to be understood what will emerge from the study and what will be the response of the citizens and the opposition political forces who had promoted the petition to stop the project.
