Spanish GP 2024: Qualifying | Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team

Yuki Tsunoda #22
Third Free Practice Session – Best lap: 1:14.420, 18th position, 22 laps
Qualifying – Best lap: (Q1) 1:12.985, 17th pos.

“We struggled to find our pace this weekend and tried several things to try to improve. Qualifying went better than in free practice, at least I can say I’m happy with my lap and I feel I managed to make the most of the current package. The last few races went well and I think it’s important to face this most complicated moment by all being united. It’s a good opportunity to learn from our difficulties and grow as a team. The most important thing is to stay positive, and we certainly will.”

Daniel Ricciardo #3
Third Free Practice Session – Best lap: 1:14.161, 16th pos., 17 laps
Qualifying – Best lap: (Q1) 1:13.075, 18th pos.

“It’s a difficult weekend. We have a lot of new components on the car and we still need to understand the best way to make them work. Yesterday we looked for balance and during the night we made some important changes. In qualifying, the car looked much improved. We have made progress in terms of feeling and balance, but unfortunately we are still in a difficult situation in terms of the timing. Being out of Q1 with both cars, especially using three sets of softs each, shows that we don’t have the pace at the moment. There is still much to discover and we will continue to work. Tomorrow will pass quickly, but we have some races ahead with similar characteristics to this track, so we obviously need to understand what we’re missing.”

Jody Egginton (Technical Director)

“It’s fair to say that despite everyone’s hard work and the changes made overnight, along with the initial feedback on the updates which showed that overall they have largely met expectations, we haven’t been able to get enough out of the car here to Barcelona. With such a tight battle in the midfield, it’s very easy to end up at the back of the pack if you’re struggling, as unfortunately we saw today. In terms of car balance, there has been some improvement. This alone wasn’t enough, so it’s clear that we have a lot of work to do tonight, but also ahead of Austria, to get more out of the car; much of this work will consist of analyzing in detail the aerodynamic data we have collected here in Barcelona. On the other hand, both drivers did a good job of supporting the engineering team with feedback on the many elements we evaluated here. Even getting the most out of the cars, we have a lot of data to work with to make the necessary progress.”
