ROME – The gift received from Pope Francis was simple but at the same time extremely full of meaning. Don Augusto Porsochaplain of the Ripatrici Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Marcellina, symbolically handed over a cedar grown in the cedar groves of Santa Maria del Cedro into the hands of the Holy Father. “This is the gift of the community of Santa Maria del Cedro (and of the entire Riviera dei Cedri)” said the priest when presenting the tribute. And Riviera dei Cedri was also talked about on Vatican Radio, where Don Augusto was subsequently a guest, mentioning not only the ancient family traditions linked to its production and relationship with the Jewish brothers, but also its transformation in the food sector. It is no coincidence that the late pastor Don Francesco Gatto described Santa Maria as the “cedar-scented town”.
Furthermore, at the Church of the Ripatrici Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Marcellina – where Mass is celebrated every day at 6.30 pm, Saturday at 8.00 am and Sunday at 8.30 am – Don Augusto wanted to invite everyone to pray for the success of Peter, who is at this moment tried by suffering physical but which, despite this, continues to vigorously carry out its service in favor of the Church.
