Aversa. Viale Europa fire, dioxins and furans below reference values

Continue the air quality monitoring by Arpa Campania following the fire that hit a plumbing and sanitary material warehouse Aversa last June 19th.

The flames destroyed several cars located in the parking lot of the adjacent condominium and material in fiberglass, PVC, ceramic, metal, placed on wooden pallets, packaged with cardboard or polyethylene film.

The second test report, issued by the Dioxin Laboratory of the Contaminated Sites and Remediation Unit concerning the determination of dioxins and furans (PCDD-PCDF) in air sampled on 20-21 June 2024, shows a concentration of dioxins and furans equal to 0.084 pg /Nmc I -TEQ.

Arpac informs that there are no reference limits imposed by legislation for the concentration of dioxins in ambient air.

A reference value currently used by the scientific community is that proposed by the Laenderausschuss fuer Immssionsschutz (LAI – Germany), equal to 0.15 pg/Nmc I -TEQ (picograms per normal cubic meter in terms of equivalent total toxicity).

The value detected during the second sampling cycle is therefore lower than this reference limit.

AVERSA FIRE

The vast fire broke out two days ago. Before our eyes melted plastic materials, vegetation and burnt cars, damaged neighboring buildings.

The fire – which also hit the adjacent streets: Via Altavilla, Via IV Novembre – occurred yesterday around 12. Numerous reports from citizens to the 115 switchboards.

The Red Helmets mobilized several teams (also from outside the province) on site to put out the fire which released a huge cloud of black smoke.

The flames touched some homes near the depot: 5 cars were also destroyed.

Someone slept away from home, with friends or relatives; others preferred to stay in their homes for fear of looting.

What triggered the flames and where they started from, everything will be ascertained by the investigators and the Judicial Fire Brigade.
