Danilo Rea presents ‘La grande opera in jazz’ in Lucca

On Sunday 30 June, at 9pm, there will be the second appointment Anniversary in concertwhich will feature one of the most appreciated and talented Italian jazz pianists on the San Francesco stage, Danilo Rea. The event, conceived and organized by the Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca Foundation, celebrates, in this 2024 edition, the eleventh anniversary of the reopening of the convent complex of San Francesco. Entrance is free upon online booking (on www.fondazionecarilucca.it), tickets will be available starting from 12pm on Tuesday (25 June).

On the occasion of this event, Danilo Rea, in the year of the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini, will present The great work in jazza tribute to the composers who made Italian melodrama famous throughout the world – Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Mascagni – together with the singing stars who performed their unforgettable arias: Maria Callas, Mario Del Monaco, Enrico Caruso, Tito Schipa, Maria Caniglia, Beniamino Gigli, Amelita Galli Purci and others. An unprecedented musical journey, of great cultural and poetic impact. An interactive, visual and audio show, enriched by the projection of videos with archive images, recorded in black and white, together with evocative and original works of contemporary art. Danilo Rea’s superb interpretation enhances the artistic value of the voices extracted from the historic recordings and unreleased video images, in a harmonious combination of melody and musical improvisation.

The great work in jazz manages to take the audience on an exceptional journey through the great opera arias, including: Norma, Turandot, Traviata, L’Elisir d’Amore, Cavalleria Rusticana, Madama Butterfly And Tosca.

Danilo Rea was born in Vicenza in 1957, but his musical career began in Rome, from an early age. His passion for music led him to study at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, where he obtained his diploma and taught jazz until 2017. Classical, rock and pop studies influenced his education and converged through jazz, his true passion: melody and improvisation. He made his debut with the legendary Trio di Roma with E. Pietropaoli and R. Gatto; at the same time he accompanies some of the most important musicians as a pianist
