Contemporary art in Abruzzo with “Stills of Peace”

A territorial mainstreaming proposed by Aria Foundation which sees Abruzzo as the protagonist of an intercultural dialogue with foreign countries.

Stills of Peacea contemporary art event now in its between Atri and Pescara.

The objective is to grasp concepts of profound humanity through contemporary art paths: questioning how art can be a political instrument for everyone, understanding the ways in which the creative process challenges modern sensibility.

The event, which boasts an important partnership with Abruzzo Region, Abruzzo universities, Dante Alighieri Society, Cervantes Institute, Mexican Embassy and others still, already promises strong emotions.

The guest country for the 2024 edition is therefore Mexico, which marks the 150th year of international relations and which is certainly oriented towards a new course, especially judging by the new leadership of the country. The first female president will take office in October, Claudia Sheinbaum in fact, he will take the reins directly from the outgoing president Lopez Obrador.

Mexico, with its colors and its history as a border land, will be the protagonist of the exhibition “Rumbos de Vida” which will inaugurate on 6 July in the Cisterns of Palazzo Acquaviva in Atri. A date perhaps not coincidental if we consider that July 6th is the day of birth of Frida Kahlo, universally recognized as one of the most important interpreters of the land of the Campesinos. By Giulia Palladini and Rodolfo Suarez Molnar, “Rumbos de Vida” entrusts Mexican artists Francis Alÿs, Sara Leghissa, Francisco Mata Rosas, Monica Mayer, Rosa Maria Robles, Francisco Toledo, Antonio Turok and Teatro Ojo the task of showing the infinite social contradictions of the territory, including disappearances, migrations, abuses, violence and acts of political reclamation.

Mexico will also be at the center of the cine forum which will be spread over 6 events with films and insights.

Again as part of the exhibition in the Cisterns of Palazzo Acquaviva, Antonio Zimarino he is the curator of the exhibition “Verso dove” with works by Bruno Ceccobelli and the artists’ “Through what” exhibition Simone Camerlengo and Luciano Sozio.

Also on July 6th, in the Archaeological Museum of Atri, the works of Vito Bucciarelli will be the protagonists of the exhibition “Sovralunare o celeste” curated by Mariano Cipollini. The artist proposes a cosmic vision that investigates the vicissitudes of the earth with a sublunary gaze.

On July 7th the appointment is in Pescara in the zerozero gallery on the sea level with the exhibition Flaneries by Jill Hartley edited by Paolo dell’Elce. Jill Hartley did knowledge work in the 1970s in Poland as the Gdańsk Revolution began. “Stray cat and eternal wanderer, she investigates the epiphany of the human” she declares of Elce. After traveling around the world, she also landed in Mexico where she remained for 30 years. The artist questions the mystery of man and the reality that belongs to all of us.

That border wall that runs between Mexico and the USA and that marks the change of pace between Central America and modernity, is the wall on which to note the contradictions of a contemporary age, that desire to search for a better existence, a concept that belongs to all peoples and all ages. Mexico therefore becomes the paradigm of universal suffering.

The theme of the exhibition is therefore global humanity, we all belong to “a global community, we need to deepen the sense of humanity that must be the subject of reflection. Help others and think of others while respecting their nature and cultural, social and linguistic diversity In the world there are more than 1 billion people who think about how to improve the world”: this is the philosophy of Stills of Peace.

Stills of Peace therefore reviews the concepts of humanity and proposes a story in reverse: of people who do good and bring values and sensitivity into the near future.
