The Consul of Morocco in Calabria at the Rotary congress

The Honorary Consul of Morocco in Calabria, adv. Dominic Naccari attended the district conference of Rotary held at Vibo Valentia entitled “Rotary for the Future”. In the presence of the highest Rotary officials including the Governor Franco Petrolo, who did the honours, the district coordinator of agora projects Gianfranco Saccomanno, the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Vietnam SE Duong Hai Hung, and the presidents of the clubs of the Region, the Consul Naccari recalled the solidarity shown by Rotary during the devastating earthquake that devastated the Marrakesh region of Morocco last year.

He highlighted the strategic position of Morocco being the North African country geographically closest to Europe (just think it is only 13 km from the Spanish coast) and the important role that Calabria can have in the field of commercial traffic. On this point he recalled that Tanger Med is present in Morocco, which is among the largest ports in the Mediterranean for container handling and is equipped with a Free zone in the rear port area and represents the meeting point between the “Mare Nostrum” and the Atlantic.

In Calabria, vice versa, it is present Gioia Tauro which represents the first Italian port for goods traffic and the eighth in Europe. He also pointed out that Morocco, as well as geographically, is a country very close to Europe also from the point of view of modernity, democracy, respect for human rights, liberalisation, economic progress, the condition of women and of dialogue between religions. The hope, concluded Naccari, is that the Rotary district 2102 implements service projects between Calabria and Morocco aimed at the prevention and treatment of diseases, economic development, intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
