L’Aquila, one-way Viale Ovidio to gain parking spaces

L’AQUILA – By July the Viale Ovidio construction site will be closed and the road will be reopened, but it will be a complete revolution in the Luminosa Fountain area. At the beginning the road will be passable in one direction only and not two which were foreseen by the project. The choice is to gain parking spaces in the area, explains councilor Paola Giuliani, which otherwise would have been sacrificed. The reopening of Viale Ovidio was established by the previous mobility councilor Carla Mannetti, as an action included in the urban sustainable mobility plan. Meanwhile, the Municipality and the Municipal Police have established the reorganization of vehicular traffic in Piazza Battaglione Alpini. With the resolution approved by the council it was ordered to move the stands reserved for taxis in Piazza Battaglione Alpini, in such a way as to establish in the same area a specific stop for passengers on tourist buses and urban public transport only. The same resolution had foreseen 200 parking stalls for a maximum of 2 hours with parking disc, of which 5 stalls in Piazza Battaglione Alpini, near the Infopoint. The new provisions provide for the establishment, in the stretch between Via Tre Spighe and Vico Amatrice, of a bus stop intended for urban public transport and for the boarding/alighting of tourist bus passengers, with the relocation of the area intended for taxis.

TAXI

The 5 parking stalls reserved for taxis will be arranged like a comb in the stretch between Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the Infopoint, with the relocation of the stalls reserved for people with disabilities and the pink car parks. Furthermore, to replace the free parking spaces currently located near the Infopoint, on the internal side of the square, there will be 2 spaces reserved for vehicles serving people with disabilities, equipped with the appropriate sign and 2 spaces reserved for vehicles serving of pregnant women or parents with a child aged no more than two years, with a maximum permitted stop of 3 hours. The same ordinance provides for a maximum parking time of 2 hours from 8am to 8pm with a parking disc for the 5 stalls on the external side of the Infopoint square. The parking stall for the police will replace the one with a parking disc near Vico Amatrice.

OBLIGATIONS

The obligation to give precedence with compulsory direction is also established for vehicles coming from the upper part of Piazza Battaglione Alpini and heading towards Viale Gran Sasso and also the establishment of compulsory direction to the right, towards Viale Gran Sasso, for vehicles coming from viale Malta. There will be a connecting pedestrian passage, running alongside the Castle Park, between the pavement of Viale Gran Sasso (Via Raul Manselli side) and Viale delle Medaglie d’Oro, with the consequent elimination of parking stalls.
