“The young people will continue the fight.” With these last words the children remember their father Enzo Lanini, who passed away on Friday at the age of 86. A primary school teacher, he was a councilor in the 1960s in the left-wing administration in Bagni di Lucca, the first in the “white” province of Lucca where the Christian Democrats reigned with absolute majorities in the municipalities, led by the then young socialist mayor Mario Lena . In 1965, in disagreement with the national political line of the PSI, he left the party and founded the PSIUP. Subsequently, since the 1970s, he was a union leader and activist in the CGIL, directing the Chamber of Labor of Fornaci di Barga for many years. For about half a century he had been responsible for the annual summer staging of the Historical Exhibition of Resistance and Emigration in Montefegatesi in collaboration with Filef Lucchese, sponsored by the Tuscany Region and the municipality of Bagni di Lucca, which was always very popular. He wrote several books, documenting the historical facts of the area, studying in depth the Resistance in the 21st area and the emigration that had decimated the town of Montefegatesi. As his children and his wife Maddalena Taliani are keen to remember, the fight against inequalities and the alleviation of the suffering of others, including moral suffering, were his guiding star. The family would like to thank everyone for sharing part of the road with him. Bagni di Lucca loses a protagonist of its political and trade union history. The body will be on display until Monday at the Barga hospital morgue, where a civil ceremony will be held before cremation. Our newspaper also joins in the general condolences, expressed by the local authorities and the population, offering heartfelt condolences to the family.

“The Party of the Communist Refoundation of Lucca expresses its closeness to the family of Enzo Lanini – writes the party in a note -. Unfortunately, a figure who was and is an example for all the workers and anti-fascists of the Serchio Valley and Lucca. Enzo participated in political and trade union life, in addition to his commitment to schools”. Marco Nicoli
