“Orange alert for strong thunderstorms until midnight; Milan is surrounded by very strong thunderstorms: to the north Cantù, Erba, Canzo; to the south-east between Melegnano, Paullo, Lodi, Treviglio; to the south-west Vigevano, Abbiategrasso, Corsico”. Marco Granelli, councilor for safety of the Municipality of Milan, writes this on his social channels, underlining: “It is necessary to pay great attention to strong winds, flooding, the risk of falling trees, hail. For now the river levels are low , but flood waves are expected in the next few hours.”

Meanwhile, a violent storm hit the city in the evening, with gusts of wind that caused at least 15 trees to fall. The most critical situation occurred in via Nono, with the interruption of the electricity and tram lines. Also in Corso Magenta, via La Spezia, via V Alpini-Monti, via XX Settembre, via Belgioioso, via Dezza, viale Abruzzi-Gran Sasso, via Ravizza, via Cimarosa, Parco Sempione and others. Another storm is expected at 10pm. The Civil Protection system is in operation.

The most complicated intervention – the Fire Brigade said – involved a tree of around 20 meters which fell near the Monumental Cemetery and severed tram lines 12 and 14. Traffic, in fact, is blocked waiting for the restoration of circulation. Furthermore, the tree also fell in the internal courtyard of a community center where some people who were fortunately unharmed were at the time. Firefighters and the Garden Park Authority worked during the night to clear the area.
