Taranto and its province, over 440 thousand dangerous products seized

The interventions of the Fiamme Gialle of the Economic-Financial Police Unit and of the Taranto Group continue unabated, supported by the Companies of Manduria and Martina Franca and by the Tenenza of Castellaneta, to counter the spread of products potentially dangerous to public health.

The checks carried out by the financiers led to the seizure of over 440,000 items in 36 shops located in Taranto, Pulsano, Manduria, Sava, San Marzano di S. Giuseppe, Maruggio, Avetrana, Lizzano, Fragagnano, Grottaglie, Palagianello, Laterza and Ginosa. Among the seized products are housewares, costume jewellery, hardware, stationery, clothing accessories, perfumes and cosmetics, all without the mandatory information required by the “Consumer Code”. This regulatory decree requires that products intended for consumers carry detailed information on the name, identity of the producer, presence of harmful substances, materials and processing methods.

After in-depth investigations, the Fiamme Gialle reported the owners of the 36 commercial activities to the competent authorities. The investigations are now continuing with the aim of dismantling the logistical and organizational networks involved, and of recovering the proceeds deriving from these illicit activities through taxation.

Countering the spread of products that do not comply with safety standards is essential to guarantee consumer protection and ensure a competitive market where honest economic operators can work in fair conditions.
