Calliope calls the citizens of Taranto: video selfies to tell their story

The citizens of Taranto and the entire city become a work of art. The street, the faces, the memories, the senses. Each person with their own experience and diversity.

There is all this in the participatory art project “Beyond the map” by artist Mimmo Martorelli. Promoted by lpacs – Institutional & Public Coaching Services – in collaboration with the Municipality of Taranto and the ASL Taranto, it is part of the project of House of Emerging Technologies Calliope.

And if Calliope is characterized by being a scientific research project, this initiative aims to make it increasingly integrated with the territory, conveying its contents and mission also through the involvement of citizens. In this way the people of Taranto themselves become part of the One Health project.

After the first phase with the selection of 6 “City Competent” (competent citizens) who discussed the issues of environment and health to become the social symbol of Taranto with a participatory work of art, now the artist calls for a rally anyone who wants to be part of this project with a request: tell your story.

The next appointment for this story is July 13th, at 4.00 pm at Bac, the new Park of Arts and Music in Taranto: an invitation to all citizens to intervene and tell their own story, and become protagonists of a work of participatory art. It is sufficient to create short video selfies describing a memory, an experience, a thought linked to the streets of the city and the Tamburi, Lama-San Vito, Tre Carrare Battisti and Borgo Umbertino districts. Everyone can choose the place where they feel most in harmony with the ecosystem that surrounds them.

«The road – he comments Francesca Cioffi, president of Ipacs – becomes an interconnection between human, environmental and animal health. It is the element that helps you connect with yourself, with others and with the area you live in. The theme of One Health, therefore, is also told from an artistic, social and sociological point of view.”

Hence the interconnection between different sectors. «The common good – he explains Feliciana Catino, administrative manager of Calliope – it is a system objective. This participatory initiative was born precisely from the desire to make the project, which is essentially scientific, understood, opening it up to citizens and making them protagonists.”
