Solidarity rock in Taranto: the doctors’ band Sound of Garage plays for Emergency

It was founded in 2011 by a group of doctors, all sharing a passion for rock music. Since its inception the Sound of garage band, composed of Danny Sivo (vocals and guitar), Antonio Sanguedolce (guitar), Massimiliano Sivo (low) e Fabio Farina (drums) has chosen to perform only for solidarity initiatives as will also happen on Saturday 22 June (the evening with free entry will begin at 7pm) for the event scheduled to support Emergency in the Spaceport in Taranto.

«This new concert too – explains Antonio Sanguedolce, general director of the Polyclinic of Bari – was organized to support the humanitarian activities which, especially at this moment, in the international scenario, are taking place in the areas affected by wars and conflicts, with increasingly more devastating and are carried out by an association that is very active in these territories and in the rest of the world, such as Emergency”.

«During the evening – he concludes – it will be the volunteers of the Emergency Puglia group who will describe how they move, what type of actions they implement and how the rescue works. It will also be possible to see, through the use of special helmets that use virtual reality, the pediatric surgery center that Emergency has already opened in Uganda and listen to the testimonies of the patients and doctors who work there. All this also to understand the importance that a structure of this type has had in that area and how much need there is for centers like this in other states experiencing health emergencies.”

In recent years, the band has also managed to raise funds to donate some pianos to hospitals in Puglia and in 2019 and 2022 they performed at Medimex to help healthcare workers.

«As a group – underlines Sivo – we have also recorded a record containing our pieces, published in 2014, entitled Mondo Accelerated but generally, during the evenings, we play great classics, the most famous pieces of rock which starts from the Sixties and ends to the Eighties and groups such as the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. The setlist will also include songs by Pink Floyd and U2, as well as our version of People have the power Of Patti Smithh. Among other things, we had the honor of opening one of her concerts a few years ago, when she was a guest at Medimex.”

«And it is precisely with this song of his, perhaps the one that best represents his path and his social and political commitment – concludes Sivo – that we will end our performance. For us, this song contains a message of hope, a positive message in a world increasingly anesthetized to pain, in particular to that which wars cause. We want to shake consciences and, through initiatives of this type, also make a small contribution to a more just world.”
