22 sanctions and 3 complaints for environmental crimes: the Crotone Coast Guard strikes hard

The Crotone Coast Guard continues with commitment its activities to control and repress environmental crimes on its territory. Since the beginning of the year, 22 commercial and industrial activities have been sanctioned for violations of the reference legislation contained in Legislative Decree 152/06.

In recent weeks, the Coast Guard soldiers have inspected 3 activities which led to the referral of the owners to the competent Judicial Authority.

The violations confirmed

  • Failure to possess authorizations for discharge and atmospheric emissions: a boat repair and maintenance business did not have the necessary permits.
  • Uncontrolled waste disposal: the repair and maintenance activity of boats was also sanctioned for the uncontrolled storage of waste.
  • Incorrect compilation of the waste loading and unloading register: both the repair and maintenance activity of boats and a second commercial activity were found not to be in compliance with the compilation of the waste loading and unloading register.
  • Lack of authorization for atmospheric emissions: a third commercial activity inspected was found not to have an authorization for atmospheric emissions.

In addition to the sanctions, environmental regulations were issued for each individual activity inspected. If complied with within the assigned deadlines, the activities will be able to regularize their position and operate in compliance with environmental regulations.

The Coast Guard’s control activity has already had a positive impact: several commercial activities inspected in the previous months have regularized their position by complying with environmental requirements.

The commitment of the Crotone Coast Guard to protecting the environment remains constant. The checks will continue to ensure compliance with the regulations and the protection of the marine and coastal environment.
