A desire for autonomy, but also the pleasure of being together as well as experiencing the mountains. Because the one undertaking the journey, however not trivial (we are talking about 370 kilometers in total, over 4,000 meters of difference in altitude and lasting eight days), is a group of people with cognitive disabilities from the L’Arche Community l’Arcobaleno of Quarto Inferiore, at the gates of Bologna. The trip will take place with pedal-assisted bicycles, tandems, trikes and cargo bikes, in the company of their companions. A caravan which has a total of forty people and which will move up and down the valleys of the Dolomites from 1st to 8th July. The departure is set from Bologna for June 30th, the day the Tour de France will pass under the Two Towers. The actual start of the ride will be from Cortina on July 1st. Numerous meetings with local realities are scheduled: 3 July in Bolzano and 4 July in Trento, then Cles and the final stop in Moena. Total: 370 kilometers with 4,200 meters of altitude difference.

Furthermore, this is not the first trip in this way: two years ago, a similar trip from Bologna to Rome became a docufilm, which will be screened next July 4th in Trento. The initiative, as the Dire agency writes, was presented today at the headquarters of the Metropolitan City of Bologna by the same guests and operators of the Arche, together with the mayor of Granarolo Alessandro Ricci and to the president of the Tourist Territory of Bologna and Modena, Mattia Santori.

The undertaking, including organization and travel costs, accommodation, preparation of vehicles, organization of events and creation of the docufilm, the initiative will cost around 90 thousand euros: for this reason, the Arche of Granarolo has asked associations, institutions, sponsors and private citizens to contribute to support the project: “An extraordinary result has already been brought home – comments Mayor Ricci -, here we move from declarations on inclusiveness to putting it into practice with concrete facts”. This in Bologna “is the year of the Tour de France – underlines Santori – we hope to involve more and more people in the use of the bicycle”, also with a view to inclusiveness. And for this reason “talking about this experience is useful”.
