Herculaneum, trader Gaetano Colantuono convicted: he imported 122 kilograms of cocaine

Herculaneum. The trial of Gaetano Colantuono, a 39-year-old entrepreneur from Ercolano known in the gastronomy sector, ended with a six-year prison sentence.

The man was arrested last September as part of an operation by the Guardia di Finanza which led to the seizure of 122 kilos of cocaine, worth around 30 million euros.

The drugs were found inside a container from Panama, which arrived at a commercial warehouse in San Giorgio a Cremano. Colantuono was arrested while he was busy opening the container.

At the trial, prosecutor Luigi Santulli had asked for a 16-year prison sentence. The Gup Enrico Campoli instead issued a lighter sentence, accepting the defense theory supported by thelawyer Rosario Arienzo.

The lawyer underlined Colantuono’s admission of the facts and his precarious economic conditions, also due to pressure from the “local underworld”.
