There Puglia region is considering the possibility of appealing before the Constitutional Court the Calderoli law which introduces thedifferentiated autonomy.

This was announced by the governor of Puglia, Michele Emiliano, at Ansa. «The Puglia Region – he says – with its offices is evaluating very carefully every possibilityincluding the direct challenge before the Constitutional Court of the Calderoli law which, as is known, is only possible for the Regions for violations of the regional sphere of competence”.

Appeal to the Constitutional Court which is also being prepared by the Campania Region, chaired by Vincenzo De Luca. «At this moment – says Emiliano – unity is strength and therefore we will share all the initiatives that the other regions will propose and that are going in the same direction.”

Against differentiated autonomy, the Apulian governor underlines, we need a «common front» because « as it is conceived by the Calderoli law it doesn’t just harm the South».

Differentiated autonomy, he continues, «undermines the principle of unity and indivisibility of the Republic, as enshrined in Article 5 of our Constitution, and risks creating regional fiefdoms in which to attract public power and preserve local wealth, to the detriment of national equalization. We had already had the first signs with the macroscopic reduction of the infrastructure equalization fund. Differentiated autonomy – says Emiliano again – the gap between the regions will become chronic because it undermines the regional model that the Constituent Assembly had outlined as solidarity and cooperative. So the first thing to do is inform Italian citizens about what is happening», he concludes.
