The operations of the Fiamme Gialle of the Economic-Financial Police Unit and of the Taranto Group continue incessantly, together with the Companies of Manduria and Martina Franca and the Tenenza of Castellaneta, to counter the spread of products potentially dangerous to public health.

During recent control activities, the Financiers identified and seized over 440,000 items from 36 commercial establishments located in Taranto, Pulsano, Manduria, Sava, San Marzano di S. Giuseppe, Maruggio, Avetrana, Lizzano, Fragagnano, Grottaglie, Palagianello, Laterza and Ginosa. Among the products seized: household items, costume jewellery, hardware, stationery, clothing accessories, perfumes and cosmetics. All the articles were found to lack the mandatory information required by the “Consumer Code”.

The “Consumer Code” requires that products intended for the consumer must bear precise indications on the legal or product name, on the identity of the producer, on the presence of potentially harmful substances, on the materials used and on the processing methods. The absence of this information represents a significant risk to consumer health and a violation of current regulations.

At the end of the preliminary investigations, the Financiers reported to the competent authorities the owners of the 36 retailers involved in the checks. Now, the investigations are aimed at dismantling the logistical, organizational and structural chain of illicit supply chains. A crucial objective is the recovery of proceeds arising from such illegal activities through appropriate tax measures.

Countering the spread of products that do not comply with safety standards is essential to ensure effective consumer protection. Such products not only pose a danger to public health, but also undermine consumer confidence in the market. Furthermore, ensuring that all products on the market comply with current regulations creates a competitive environment where honest economic operators can operate on equal competitive terms.

The investigations will continue in the coming months, with a particular focus on product traceability and responsibilities along the entire distribution chain. The authorities underline the importance of these actions to maintain a fair and safe market, where unfair and dangerous commercial practices have no place.
