Gennaro Palmieri resigns from the position of Accessibility Promoter within the Municipality of Trani
«Dear Mr. Mayor,
I am writing this to you to tender my irrevocable resignation, handing over to you the mandate of Accessibility Promoter within the Municipal Observatory for the Removal of Architectural Barriers (OCABA) which I have had the honor and burden of representing up to now. With knowledge of the facts and after a careful examination of conscience on my long actions, I considered it necessary, with the utmost awareness, to reach the determination that my time was up. I have sensed in these past years that everything converged in a waste of time, in a big mockery, a clown and finally allow me, an unfair machination on the part of arrogant and presumptuous administrators who have achieved these powers thanks to the His permissiveness and for political decisions inter nos. I didn’t do it before because I believed that things would improve over time and I absolutely didn’t want to give the satisfaction to some councilor present at the consultation tables of throwing in the towel. The facts demonstrate this considering that with the approval of the PEBA (Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers), the only works carried out by the Municipality of Trani were to build new slides for the disabled, not respecting the true purpose of the PEBA, which is to make the person’s territory easier to access. disabled person suffering from any disabling pathology. The renovation of the existing slides was never taken into consideration even though I highlighted it several times, but these works were not odiens and therefore prosopopoeic articles could not be published with photos. The thing that pains me the most is that I have disappointed the expectations of many professionals who believed in me unconditionally by offering the City of Trani an opportunity, their experience and professionalism completely free of charge and the Administration was unable to seize the opportunity that was given to it. was offered. Rather than abandon my ideals and make discriminatory compromises, I renounce the position, but I will continue to represent the citizens who have given me their trust within the Municipal Observatory for the Removal of Architectural Barriers.
I immediately sensed, according to my modest opinion and interpretation, that for some members of this Administration I was an inconvenient element to eliminate, despite my professional and daily life path of over forty years, as I myself am disabled, in within the issues of diversity, in the global sense of the term and the elimination of all Architectural and Cultural Barriers.

I have always given total availability to citizens, to users in general of any category, making their every need a problem to be faced and solved. In recent years I have tried to carry out my mandate with tenacity, humility, correctness and always with a profound sense of legality, making my skills and my time available to the entire community, always taking it away from my professional commitment and often also from my family. But all this gratuitous dedication has evidently never been appreciated as much by you as by some of his trusted men. Naturally, knowing you, this way of doing things disconcerted me. I would have appreciated at least a phone call to find out your different thoughts in appointing my replacement but it wasn’t like that and I repeat, I am very disappointed considering our loyal relationships up until now. and correct.

Today the serenity which is an essential prerequisite for carrying out the role entrusted to me in the best possible way has disappeared, therefore I believe that it would not be right to continue to occupy such a responsible role without the necessary motivation. For these reasons I consider it correct and dutiful, reluctantly, to return the mandate entrusted to me, with the certainty that you, having been badly advised, will be able to make a right and far-sighted choice, even if you are looking for the availability through personal telephone calls of a person who has your same way of thinking and seeing the role of Accessibility Promoter which differs considerably from my modus operandi. I take advantage of this moment to renew my profound esteem towards the colleagues of the participating Associations and the representatives of the Order of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors who have shared with me the passion and commitment, free of charge, in carrying out the role for each of their expertise. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the opportunity to live this negative experience, which contributed significantly to my human growth. During this period, I want to underline, I have had the opportunity to get to know your qualities as Mayor, in insulting the intelligence and experience acquired in the field and through the daily experience of someone who has put in the utmost effort, sincerely believing in the His person and was rewarded with complete disappointment. I thank you again for offering me the honor and the possibility of being able to put myself at the service of my City without any interest other than the good of the City. For me it is certainly not a defeat but rather it has given me the opportunity to return to being that maverick, which has always distinguished me in pursuing my objectives with patience, stubbornness and perseverance, always respecting the provisions of the law and which I will be able to ensure honoured. the rights of all disabled people like me. But, faced with a totally absent and distracted Administration, I could only come to this decision to ensure that I was not considered like you. I decided to hand in my resignation, having immediately realized that the Municipal Observatory lacked the lifeblood and concrete support of the Municipal Administration. Facts like these also determine a less than credible image in a sector such as that of disability represented by a Disability Councilor who manages it in a non-global way.

The UILDM Association Sec. of Trani within the OCABA will always be present more aggressive than before and available if you were to, in the near future, with concrete, serious and responsible actions, be more attentive and autonomous and not use people only for convenience, consider me at Your complete disposal. I assure you that I will certainly not fail in a civic commitment that I will try to continue to honor with my contribution as Association Manager and simple citizen, considering very carefully that by virtue of this decision of mine, serious problems of obstructionism may arise. But knowing me well, he also knows that I am stubborn and persevering and I am not easily discouraged by certain shameful behaviors. Considering you to be an excellent lawyer, allow me to repeat a phrase from the Blessed Saint Pio: I MAKE MORE NOISE WHEN I’M DEAD THAN WHEN I’M ALIVE. It’s not a threat and if you want to understand, understand. Regards.”
