An unprecedented blitz has been launched in the sights of the financial authorities of Taranto, aimed at protecting consumers from a vast network of potentially dangerous and counterfeit products. The financiers of the provincial command carried out a far-reaching operation, seizing over 440 thousand items in 36 shops located between Pulsano, Manduria, Sava, San Marzano di San Giuseppe, Maruggio, Avetrana, Lizzano, Fragagnano, Grottaglie, Palagianello, Laterza and Ginosa.

Over 440 thousand items, including costume jewellery, household items, hardware, stationery, clothing accessories, perfumes and cosmetics, were removed from sales counters. These products, lacking the essential information required by the Consumer Code, represent a potential danger to public health. In accordance with current regulations, products intended for consumption must provide detailed information on the materials used, processing methods and the presence of potentially harmful components. Failure to comply with these provisions not only puts consumers’ health at risk, but also violates the principles of correctness and transparency of the market.

CONSEQUENCES FOR MERCHANTS

The traders involved were sanctioned and reported to the competent authorities, as part of an ongoing investigation to dismantle the entire illegal supply chain that allowed the marketing of these products. The authorities’ objective is also to recover the revenues deriving from these illicit activities, thus contributing to ensuring a safer and more transparent market for consumers. The seizure of this enormous quantity of goods represents an important step in the fight against counterfeiting and the commercialization of dangerous productsunderlining the commitment of law enforcement in protecting the rights and safety of citizens.
