The Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Foggia have implemented a precautionary custody order, issued by the GIP at the local Court against 16 suspects – of which 15 have been sent to prison and 1 to house arrest – accused of illicit detention and drug dealing of drugs in competition. The investigations, conducted from July 2023 to January 2024 by the Carabinieri of the Company of Vico del Gargano (FG) under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Foggia, made it possible to document a flourishing trafficking of cocaine, hashish and marijuana in the northern area of the Gargano , in particular in the municipalities of Vico del Gargano and Rodi Garganico.
The narcotic substance, supplied by suppliers from Rodi Garganico (FG), San Severo (FG), San Nicandro Garganico (FG), Foggia and Cerignola (FG), was sold at retail through the adoption of expedients aimed at evading any controls of the police forces, also resorting to “itinerant drug dealing”, or delivery to order directly to buyers. Furthermore, in Vico del Gargano, one of the suspects sold the narcotic substance inside his fruit and vegetable shop, which in some cases was sold to buyers and hidden among some products on sale at the shop. During the investigations, ingenious systems by some suspects for concealing the narcotic were also documented, in some cases hidden in jars under the ground, in others in a metal cylinder near a garage where it was packaged or even transported in doses inside of electronic cigarettes.
During the investigative activities, 6 arrests were made in flagrante delicto and 4 reports were made to the police for possession for the purpose of selling narcotic substances, as well as 7 drug users reported to the Prefecture of Foggia and a total of approximately 2 kg of cocaine, hashish and marijuana seized. The proceeding is in the preliminary investigation phase and the suspects, whose position is being examined by the Judicial Authority, cannot be considered guilty until a final conviction has been pronounced.
