PESCARA. A raid by the ROS carabinieri and the provincial command of Vibo Valentia is underway for the execution of 14 precautionary custody orders. The charges, for various reasons, are of mafia-type association, murders and other crimes aggravated by mafia methods and purposes including extortion, cultivation of narcotic substances, illicit competition, disturbed freedom of auctions and robbery. The operation, coordinated by the Catanzaro DDA, was conducted with the support of the carabinieri of the provincial commands of Pescara, Chieti, Reggio Calabria and Turin.
There are a total of 26 suspects. The precautionary custody orders were issued by the District Magistrate of Catanzaro, Arianna Roccia, at the request of the deputy prosecutors of the DDA Annamaria Frustaci, Antonio De Bernardo and Andrea Buzzelli, with the coordination of the acting Public Prosecutor functions, Vincenzo Capomolla. Pre-trial detention in prison was ordered for 13 of those arrested, while one ended up under house arrest.
The investigation that led to the 14 arrests concerns illicit activities concentrated above all in the Preserre Vibo area, and in particular in the municipalities of Acquaro, Gerocarne, Soriano and Dasà. A series of searches and seizures of movable and immovable property are also underway. The details of the operation will be provided during a press conference scheduled for 10.30 in Catanzaro at the headquarters of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
