A large water main burst this morning, causing a flood of mud and debris in the Pozzano area of Castellammare di Stabia. A very strong jet of water poured an incessant waterfall towards the Stabia beaches, creating considerable inconvenience and putting the safety of people and establishments at risk.

The area was immediately evacuated thanks to the timely intervention of the police, rescuers and firefighters who rescued the inhabitants of the building underneath the pipeline and the swimmers on the nearby beaches. A restaurant located in the area was completely flooded with water.

The mayor of Castellammare di Stabia, Luigi Vicinanza, went to the site to follow the rescue operations and coordinate the interventions. The municipal administration has issued an information note, explaining that traffic has been interrupted along Via Acton, from the intersection with Via Vecchia Pozzano to the main road. As a precaution, a section of the state road itself was also closed.

Transit to and from the Sorrento Peninsula was allowed only through the Tunnel. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The teams of Gori technicians were at work to repair the fault and restore normal water supply, activating the secondary water pipe to guarantee the service.
