“At Stagnone di Marsala to relaunch a unique territory”

Put three friends who have become over time Master of Wine. Place vineyards in Stagnone, Marsala’s natural reserve. Add breathtaking sunsets that are lost in the sea. A wine and a project emerge: Wind Workshopthe vineyard-manifesto of the three Italian Masters of Wine Gabriele Gorelli, Andrea Lonardi and Pietro Russo.

“It was Peter who planted the seed – the Master of Wine, Gabriele Gorelli, tells us – because he had begun to recover some small plots facing the sea on the Stagnone di Marsala”. Project interrupted due to studies. But when he found the first plot near the Mozia pier he aroused the curiosity of his colleagues. Grillo grapes harvested in 2023 and the first four thousand bottles will be ready within a couple of months.

There is no need or desire to make an investment as something entrepreneurial but the desire is to recover a territory: “We have found an area which, due to its historicity and quality, is among the most important for Marsala and therefore for the production of high-level Grillo and we want to demonstrate that it is possible to make great wines that are not Marsala”.

Great whites from the Mediterranean to relaunch and regain control of an area that suffers from the pressure of parking and localized over-tourism. “We want to have a an entirely Sicilian relationship with the territory”. Everything zero kilometer, starting from the label which will be produced in Sicily. A manifesto wine to create a new wind for the territory and for those who live there. “We call it a restitution project, with the desire to light a beacon”.

The grapes are aged in steel and only minimally in new Burgundy barriques, in order to taste the fruit and the sea, just a few centimeters from the production area.

In a region that suffers from Drought, the Stagnone area is a new area, with great availability of useful water to never put the vines under stress. An idea born with a view to combating climate change. “The commercial will must be something that gives us budget to redevelop the Stagnone in existing or future associations. We want only people we know personally to sell this wine so that they can tell the genesis of the project well.”
