A lackluster England set the pace against tough Denmark and postpone the qualification for the round of 16 of group C to the epilogue with Slovenia, of which they are however firmly in the lead. A robbery goal from Kane, following an error from Kristiansen from Bologna, seems like the prologue to a walk in the park, but the long-range strike from the former Lecce player Hjulmand, the coach’s namesake, brings balance to a match in which the favorites always struggle by trusting too much in the high points of his overpaid soloists. Bellingham tries to invent and refine but the Danish block in midfield makes the possible efforts in vain, next golden ball. Freshness is missing, the change of pace that was expected after the inglorious victory against Serbia does not emerge. Foden hits the post, Bukayo Saka tries to stun his opponents with his dribbling, but the Danish dam holds up without any worries. Southgate changes all three of his attackers, but not even the substitutes find outlets. And in the end this dull England even risks being undermined by a concentrated Denmark, which defends well with Christiansen and Andersen, emerges with its head held high from midfield challenges with Hjulmand and Hojbjerg, and receives lifeblood from the quality of Eriksen. Foden’s flash in the 11th minute with a shot that hits the post, but the team play leaves something to be desired so coach Southgate uses strong methods: the entire attack goes out (Saka, Kane and Foden) with the additions of Bowen, Watkins and Eze. But this move doesn’t have any effect either and in the end Bah and Hojbjerg have the chance to capture the three points, but it ends in a draw and everything will be decided in the last round.
