in the district the collections increase by 300 thousand euros

Imola, 21 June 2024 – An amount confirmed to be over 2.8 millionthat means around 300 thousand euros more than what was assumed in the budget forecast phase. These are the proceeds of violations of the Highway Code recorded in 2023 by the local police at district level. Last year, for the first time, the revenues arriving from fines to motorists transiting the territory of nine out of ten municipalities are managed by the via Boccaccio (everyone except Castel San Pietro participates in the associated service), while the individual Municipalities are responsible for the collections relating to previous years.

Of the over 2.8 million above, more than 600 thousand euros they come from sanctions resulting from the detection of violations of maximum speed limits via speed cameras; including the almost 58 thousand euros that must be turned over to the metropolitan city of Bologna as they represent 50% of the fines issued on the provincial roads to heavy-footed motorists. The remaining 2.2 million concern all other types of violations of the Highway Code.

Where are they going the money from the fines? The 100% of those arriving from speed cameras must be reinvested, by law, in road safety. And therefore, as can be seen from the report sent by the District to the Ministry of the Interior, the approximately 550 thousand euros mentioned at the beginning (600 thousand euros minus the 57 thousand euros intended for the metropolitan city) will be divided into two parts: approximately 270 thousand will go to interventions maintenance and safety of road infrastructures (including signs, barriers and related systems), while another 286 thousand will be allocated by the District to strengthen the control and investigation of road traffic violations (including personnel expenses) .

The rest of the treasure arriving from sanctions for all other types of violations of the Highway Code, i.e. 2.2 million, only 50% must be reinvested in road safety. And in fact the District, again according to the prospectus sent by Imola to the Interior Ministry, will divide approximately one million and 105 thousand euros into three distinct items.

The most full-bodiedequal to over 550 thousand euros, will go road maintenance, installation, modernization, strengthening, bringing barriers up to standard and arrangement of the road surface, drafting of general urban traffic plans; interventions to protect vulnerable users, road safety education in schools of all levels, assistance and welfare for staff; cycling mobility.

Another 275 thousand euros will instead be allocated to replacement interventions, modernization, strengthening, compliance and maintenance of signs on the roads owned by the institution. And a similar amount will go towards strengthening the control and investigation of road traffic violations, including through the purchase of vehicles, vehicles and equipment for its police forces. All things considered, the total reinstatement on road safety in the nine municipalities in the district is over 1.6 million.

Among more recent interventions carried out in Imola with the money arriving from finesit is worth mentioning the maintenance and asphalting works on via Montericco and viali Carducci and De Amicis which were completed last week and whose total cost is around 160 thousand euros.
