“Speedy” Mihăilă: he is the fastest of Euro 2024

It’s not just Man, Parma’s gold that is shining at the European Championship: Valentin Mihăilă, like his compatriot (the first and only player to have 2 assists at Euro 2024), he already sits on a throne in a special ranking of the continental tournament.

The 28 minutes played against Ukraine were enough for “speedy” Mihăilă to join the list of record holders of the tournament being played in Germany. In fact, in the brief cameo at Euro2024 with Romania, the native Finta player reached an astonishing peak speed equal to 35.9 km/h: officially the highest figure ever in the competition. Just to clarify: it is the same average speed held in the 100 meters from Marcell Jacobs when he graduated gold medal in the European Athletics Championships in Munich. Always in German lands. Certainly, for the 24-year-old Romanian it is a maximum speed, while for the Italian champion it is an average speed (the peak was 42.3 km/h). But the data well underlines the great athletic abilities of the number 13 of the Tricolorii. For the specialized portal Speedsdb, in fact, only 12 players have recorded a speed higher than that achieved by Valentin Mihăilă since the data was collected.

Parma’s (and the fans’) hope is that Mihăilă runs with the same speed towards the contract renewal – still at a standstill and with the deadline set for 30 June 2025 – with the company that welcomed him way back in 2020. At the moment, however, all that remains is to wait: it is unlikely that the knot will be resolved, in one sense or another, before of returning from the European Championship. Then it will be time to sit at a table again to negotiate. Drinks permitting.
