We strongly wanted to make this choice which represents a very important cultural change of pace in the history of our country’s university system. Universities have been encouraged over the years to compete with each other. We have made a slightly counter-current choice which I hope can be read as a somewhat visionary choice. Bringing together the best skills in the quality of research, teaching, technological transfer and the third mission in a network of universities that are located on the same geographical perimeter of the country”. Thus the rector of the University of Perugia, Maurizio Oliviero, at the presentation of the Futuro al Centro project in Rome which brings together eight universities in Central Italy – Marche, Umbria and Abruzzo – for a shared valorization strategy.

This, he continues, “so that our young people can receive the best quality of education from this and our territories can have one more chance. We think that staying united, putting together the best that our universities can offer, is a driving force and an important development lever, but not only for this territory, for the entire country, and with an even more important ambition, to become an international point of reference”.

Oliviero underlines the desire to “be a gateway to international experiences” and “we would like to do this – he says – by supporting our young people, supporting them in all forms, because our objective is to explain to our young people that they must have the courage to return to our territories, invest in our territories. we cannot remain alone, we need the entire industrial, business and labor market network to be aware of one fact: our young people are extraordinarily good”.

According to the rector, the young people “need this competence to be recognized both in professional terms and in terms of remuneration” And for this reason, “I still cannot accept reading today that our graduates, our research doctors are the least paid of Europe. We have some excellence, it is no coincidence that our young people are all called back abroad”.

As a university “even today we are demonstrating vision.

We need to build an even more convinced and even stronger and more decisive network”, he concludes.
