Salerno prison: inmate floods his cell and starts a fight

Salerno

Moments of high tension were recorded in the Salerno prison where, as reported by Tiziana Guacci, secretary for Campania of the Autonomous Penitentiary Police Union, “late yesterday evening a prisoner from the section pursuant to art. 32 flooded his cell, the water spread to the entire section and this provoked the anger of another inmate who tried to attack him.

Subsequently, the prisoner who had flooded the cell shortly before began to beat the railings of the armored vehicle, generating the discontent of the remaining inmate population who in turn began beating the armored vehicles in the form of protest and shouting asking for the prisoner to be removed.

To avoid further disturbances which could have endangered the order and safety of the entire department, the inmate was moved to the holding room near the entrance rotunda. When being moved, the inmate put up passive resistance and subsequently attacked the prison police staff by biting an officer on the right leg and biting another policeman on the left wrist. Other prison police personnel were also involved in the containment operation.” The trade unionist denounces, for the umpteenth time: “We are tired of the continuous attacks against prison police personnel, critical events occur every day in the penitentiary institutions of the region. We ask, once again, loudly for serious and appropriate measures to restore legality, order and safety in the Campania prisons and restore working serenity to the penitentiary police staff who, with great sacrifice, continue to work understaffed and in overcrowded structures”.
Solidarity and closeness to the Fuorni Police personnel is also expressed by Donato Capece, general secretary of SAPPE: “the situation in the Campania prisons is alarming, also because in recent weeks other officers have suffered attacks by the inmate population. The staff is increasingly fewer, also following these events which are now commonplace. It can no longer be postponed to equip the Penitentiary Police as soon as possible with the taser and any other useful tool to defend themselves from the violence of criminals who have no respect for the rules and for the people who represent the State”.
