PIEDMONT – There are 76 out of 78 Piedmont beaches where, without compensatory measures from the Municipalities, you can swim until September 30th, according to the latest report published by Arpa. The map of the beaches where you can dive this summer can be found here.
The report
The network monitored by Arpa, in the 2024 season, consists of 78 bathing waters. These are found in seven natural lakes (Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta, Lake Mergozzo, Lake Viverone, Lake Avigliana Grande, Lake Sirio, Lake Candia) and two waterways (Cannobino and San Bernardino Torrents).
76 waters were confirmed as suitable for bathing, reaching the “Sufficient” class.
“Bad rating” for two beaches
The two beaches that have been classified with a “Poor” rating are located on Lake Maggiore, I criticize Ghiffaand on the Ravine Sant’Anna in Cannobio, on the Cannobino stream. “These areas – specifies Arpa – will in any case be usable for bathing purposes following the activation by the Municipalities of adequate measures to prevent, reduce or eliminate the causes of pollution”.
The parameters evaluated
To evaluate the quality of the water, Arpa technicians detected the levels of intestinal Enterococci and Escherichia coli. Furthermore, during the bathing season, “cyanobacteria monitoring will be carried out on lakes Maggiore, Sirio, Candia, Viverone and Avigliana Grande, in order to prevent any risks to the health of bathers”. The frequency of sampling is at least once a month from April to September of each year, according to a pre-established calendar before the bathing season.
